5 go-to tips to make your house look & feel luxurious
Like many have said; “You don’t need to spend a lot to get a luxurious look.” I totally agree and do live by that statement. However, I also understand this ‘boujee on a budget’ approach isn’t something everyone naturally knows how to do. Like everything, It takes practise and a bit of research. So here are a few of my go-to tips to get you on your way to a timeless, luxurious and cohesive home.
1. Foliage
Flowers are such a simple, yet super effective way to introduce a sense of luxury into your home. albeit a tad pricey, you can avoid such costs with a cluster of live foliage branches. Sometimes it’s even better, given it adds a bit of drama. Also, they can last a long time if you opt for something like pussywillow branches in winter before they bloom. I've had mine for well over six+ years now.
2. Window Treatments - in particular, curtains
A pair of elegant curtains will frame your windows and add an instant feeling of luxury. When drapes are gauzy and fresh, they not only create an effortlessly sophisticated atmosphere but also make it easier to feel comfortable on hot days and to keep warm on cold ones. For a simple but stunning statement, semi-sheer curtains are ideal. - I’m also partial to a roman shade for those doors and small bathroom windows.
Pro tip: The higher the curtains hang, the better! go at least 25cm above your window frame to elevate and get the luxe look you’re after.
3. Bed Sheets & Bath Towels
Make your bed and bathroom look like a 5-star hotel. For a luxurious look, use 100% French linen sheets and some plush white towels (preferably 600gsm or higher.) White towels are easier to keep clean with a bit of bleach and you can find some at department stores/outlets for an affordable rate.
Keep it simple I say, as soon as you go with coloured towels you're up against faded, patchy towels that end up looking a mess. As for your bed, adding more pillows and blankets will guarantee a luxe look and feel as if you are climb into a plush hotel bed every night.
4. Natural Fibres & Textures
Instantly add a sophisticated look and feel through texture. Natural materials such as velvet, linen, wool, jute, marble and leather, is the easiest way to make your home look more considered and elevated.
An easy way to do this without breaking the banks is by opting for small/medium-sized decor pieces like cushions, throws and vessels. I also recommend where you can, opt. for furniture pieces made from natural materials. in some instances it’s more expensive and sometimes it’s cheaper. Jute rugs are the perfect example. They’re a lot cheaper than regular rugs and you can fill a space with them pretty affordably.
5. Scents & Sounds
Ambient music instantly transforms your home into a cinematic escape. Spotify has some amazing playlists if you can’t be bothered to make your own.
My Tip; Lookup “Dinner playlist" That’ll have some nice easy listening tunes that will impress your friends and family when they’re over. Music that doesn’t disrupt conversation is ideal. Be it with lyrics or not.
The same goes for scents. Invest in that slight pricer hand-wash, it's worth every penny. Grab a gorgeous scented candle or essential oil for your diffuser. It’s about adding in more elements than only what we see.
Hope you find these tips helpful! I cannot wait to come round for some cheese, wine and a boogie!
