My Top 5 lifestyle Mags to add to your basket.

Lifestyle and interior magazines are such an amazing source of inspiration and motivation. I remember when I first picked up 'Kinfolk' back in 2011. I instantly knew this was a world I had to get into! And then I found so many more!

Lifestyle content isn't necessarily something the Australian market has really touched on much - yet! I see it coming. You watch, there will be a GOOP 2.0 at some point and one day (I'd say the closest thing we have would probably be MECCA  that's solely beauty-focused) And maybe one day, You'll see my name attached to a lifestyle entity of my own in Australia.

I've never been able to pick a particular path when it comes to design. First up I was a photographer, then a stylist, then an art director and the list just grows. Now I'm in digital marketing and graphic design. With a few freelance shoots here and there where I'm creating content (which essentially involves every job I just mentioned.)  But! these have all involved different aspects of lifestyle content.

Fashion, interiors, bedding, and food. I really believe you need to have all of these things wrapped up together and curated to really feel that inner peace we talk about. Sure you can argue it’s all just 'stuff' and we don’t need any of that to make peace. But I find a lot of joy in furniture and self-expression that comes from wearing fashion and preparing food. So I feel like everything is connected, and so you can't have one without the other... and I can't simply run with just one of these outlets forever.

So for now, I keep motivated with a few of these must-have reads from around the globe.

  1. KINFOLK MAGAZINE

Kinfolk is super ‘Arthouse.’ Very poetic in both visuals and literature. It basically screams ‘love for life’ in a very set back and minimalist form. There’s nothing it won’t delve into. I love their cinematic approach to their imagery. Everything has a story and a place. It’s the core collector's item for those looking for life inspiration.

2. CEREAL MAGAZINE

Cereal was my second introduction to lifestyle content. Each publication has a very strong theme. Be it a destination like Japan - which it's done twice. Or a particular movement or food. Very detailed and up-close in both visuals and stories. I like their in-depth discussions with creatives and small business owners. It really motivates and inspires you come each issue.

3. ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST MAGAZINE

The tried and true. Architectural Digest is amazing for seeing what's happening in the big-money sector of the world. Sure, it's not exactly attainable stuff. but nonetheless, it inspires and gives you an idea of what's trending amongst the old and new money of the world. Which is great given there's not a lot of that here in Australia.

It shows a variety of styles and approaches to design with context. It’s a great trend informer. I’d highly recommend checking out their celebrity youtube house tours. That will blow your mind! ( Mind you it's super manufactured and I don’t believe half of those celebrities own half of the stuff arranged in their homes but I love the commitment to the production!) P.s Patrick Dempsey’s is probably my favourite from that series.

4. MAN OF THE WORLD MAGAZINE

So Man of the World isn’t available in Aus. anymore from local stores to the best of my knowledge but whilst I could, I got two issues from these guys and I was impressed. At the time, It was the first publication that really got into showing men's fashion and lifestyle in a way that felt new and refined. I can't handle the general health, fashion, repressed men's fashion articles in general media so this publication made me smile! So if you’re in direr need for an aspirational men's lifestyle read, give this one a go!

5. VOGUE LIVING AUS. MAGAZINE

Of course, I couldn’t leave this post without an Australian mention. Now, although this isn’t an ‘Artisan Lifestyle publication’ it is something to pick up and flick through. After all, it was Aus. Vogue Living that originated this side of Vogue and is still globally recognised for its showcase imagery and trend forecasting.

And let’s be real, it’s easy to know why that is. Here is Aus. we are so far away from everything! so we had to get some info. on what was going on around the world on a regular basis! Consider this your monthly Euro trip in a glossy, classic mag form.

And there we have it! my top 5 publications to add to your collection of must-haves. I hope you were introduced to some new, tried and true publications to keep you inspired and motivated to create! whether that be in business or personal life :)
