interior design trends 2021

Let’s explore the turn of decade with some gorgeous new trends to expect to see in and around our homes and local businesses next year.

These 4 trends all feel very similar. But this is because I feel like the recent pandemic/this move into more conscious living has really stuck a cord with all of us and made every reassess and shape their homes to suit their adjusted lifestyles and focus on family and the environment.

Let’s explore these trends based of the many Articles, videos and Tiktoks I’ve been consuming whilst stuck inside the last 6 months!

Natural Traditional

Turning back to yesteryear, what goes around, comes around. At a time when sustainability is all on our minds we look back at the time when items were made by craftsmen and made to last. This style rediscovers the beauty in classical sculpture, antiques and fragments of history. Toned down with a few relaxed natural, unfinished items. Classic traditionalism adds a sense of unity and order to every living room, with a decorative scheme that fits well together.

A great style for someone who prefers symmetry, as well as soft furnishings, drapes, courteous stripes and florals. Moving from bold, graphic geometrics, classical and classic styles have become the main themes. A perfect time to incorporate a variety of timber shades and a couple of antique vintage finds! I love this style because although very much an upcoming trend, it is timeless and worth the investment.

Rustic Luxe

This design style is a winner amongst many, catering to anyone who enjoys their modern home comforts but who needs to incorporate some character.  It fits ideally in homes that still have some exciting features, such as exposed beams, original floorboards or panelled walls. Yet, it can also be re-created with a careful combination of old and new parts that fit together in harmony. If you already like a calm colour palette, this trend encourages you to explore some more earthy tones. Stepping away from whites and moving more into warmer creamy hues, incorporating more natural. Unfinished objects too like timber, marble and granite.

Distressed Elegance

This enduring style choice focuses strongly on faded beauty and celebrates the ageing of a once very sophisticated sense of luxury. To build a sense of time-worn opulence from scratch, aim to combine new with vintage discoveries.

Look for antique items such as candlesticks and mirrors. Aged character, and opt for furniture and textiles that feel as though they have many stories.Chipped portraits, fading textures and patina that all contribute to the natural appeal.

Retreat Chic

An overall theme focusing on Serenity. Consider it the scandi style revised, incorporating pattern and textual elements. This trend feels understated yet has a significant effect on the way you feel in the space. A home to relax and unwind in given we're spending so much time indoors lately.
